Medical Technology (Med Tech)
How Can We Help?
Medical technology saves lives – but only when it works, every time, in every condition. Resonate Testing provides ISO 17025-accredited mechanical and environmental testing for medical devices and healthcare systems, helping OEMs, engineers and procurement teams validate performance under real-world conditions.
Based in Newry, Northern Ireland, our facility brings together vibration, shock and environmental testing under one roof, enabling efficient qualification campaigns and reducing risk for critical healthcare products.
Capabilities at a Glance
We offer a tightly integrated set of mechanical and environmental tests designed around the needs of medical device manufacturers and healthcare system suppliers.
Vibration Testing
Our electrodynamic shakers are rated up to 70 kN and support payloads up to 2 tonnes, allowing us to test everything from compact diagnostic devices to large imaging systems and surgical platforms.
Typical applications include:
- Diagnostic imaging systems and racks
- Surgical robotics and mechatronic assemblies
- Life-support equipment and monitoring systems
We can apply sine, random, mixed-mode and SRS vibration profiles to represent in-service environments, transport loads and installation conditions.
Shock Testing
We perform classical shock, SRS shock and percussive shock testing to simulate drops, impacts and other transient events that medical technology faces in manufacture, installation, handling and service.
This is particularly relevant for:
- Portable and emergency equipment
- Mounted control units and enclosures
- Packaged devices shipped through complex supply chains
Environmental Testing
Our environmental laboratories support temperature cycling from –70 °C to +180 °C, humidity, salt spray and ingress protection (IP) testing.
We help you understand how devices perform in:
- Hospital environments (operating theatres, wards, ICU)
- Home-care and community settings
- Field and humanitarian deployments in extreme climates
Electrical Integrity Monitoring
For electrically powered medical equipment, we combine mechanical tests with real-time electrical monitoring. We can track continuity and insulation resistance during vibration and shock events so that failures are captured as they occur – not just at the end of a test.
Cleanroom Support
Where contamination control is critical, we can provide ISO 5 / Class 100 tented environments to maintain cleanliness around sterile or contamination-sensitive assemblies during testing.
Built for Compliance
Medical devices must meet stringent expectations for safety, reliability and quality management. Our test programmes are designed to align with the standards and regulatory pathways your teams already work within.
IEC 60601 Compliance
We support mechanical and environmental testing for electrical medical equipment in line with IEC 60601 requirements. Test conditions can be tailored to reflect the specific clauses and use environments applicable to your product, and we can integrate functional monitoring to demonstrate performance during and after exposure.
FDA Submission Support
For devices targeting US markets, we provide data acquisition and reporting tailored to support FDA submissions and related regulatory reviews.
Our transparent reporting, repeatable methods and robust documentation give procurement teams the confidence they need – and regulators the evidence they expect.
Engineering Support & Test Facilitation
Resonate Testing is more than a test lab – we are a test facilitator. Our engineering-led approach means we work alongside your team from the earliest stages of planning through to the final report.
We can help you to:
- Define the right test strategy – translating standards, end-use environments and risk assessments into practical test plans.
- Develop bespoke fixtures and rigs – from simple mounting plates to complex multi-axis assemblies that reflect how your device is installed and used in practice.
- Integrate instrumentation and data acquisition – including strain, acceleration, displacement, temperature and electrical parameters, focused on the measurements that matter to your engineers.
- Run parallel campaigns – using multiple vibration systems and environmental chambers to progress several work packages at once, compressing lead-times for time-critical programmes.
Where customers cannot be on-site, we can support remote witnessing and progress reviews using secure video and data-sharing, ensuring stakeholders stay connected to the programme even when travel is constrained.
Portable & Field Equipment Testing
Medical devices increasingly move beyond traditional hospitals – into ambulances, community care, remote clinics and humanitarian deployments. We design tests that reflect these realities.
Transport Simulation
We simulate the vibration and shock conditions associated with manufacturing, warehousing and global transport, including:
- Random vibration profiles representative of road, air and sea transport
- Drop, topple and impact events on packaged units
- Combined vibration and temperature (“shake & bake”) where thermal cycling is expected during transit
Ingress Protection (IP) Testing
Our IP testing evaluates resistance to dust, fluids and contaminants in line with relevant IEC and OEM specifications. This is particularly important for:
- Portable diagnostic units
- Ventilators and pumps used in challenging environments
- Control units and sensor systems exposed to fluids or cleaning regimes
Environmental Stress Testing
We recreate extreme climate profiles – hot, cold, humid and cyclic – to assess device performance in:
- Tropical conditions with sustained high temperature and humidity
- Desert environments with wide daily temperature swings and dust exposure
- Arctic or high-altitude climates with low temperature and pressure

Innovation & Sustainability Roadmap
The medical technology sector is evolving rapidly – and so are we. Our investment roadmap is focused on higher-fidelity testing, better data and more sustainable ways of working.
Thermal Vacuum Capability (TVAC)
We are commissioning a Thermal Vacuum Chamber (TVAC) that will allow combined vibration and thermal cycling under vacuum conditions. This capability, available from Q1 2026, will support advanced qualification programmes for high-reliability electronics and devices that operate in low-pressure or sealed environments.
Expanded Electrical Monitoring
We are expanding our electrical monitoring capability to support more complex medical electronics – including multi-channel harnesses, PCBs and integrated systems – with real-time data acquisition during dynamic testing.
Digital Reporting Platform
A digital reporting platform, launching mid-2026, will provide secure, real-time access to test data and documentation for engineering, quality and procurement stakeholders. This will streamline collaboration, support faster decision-making and make it easier to reuse data across programmes.
Reducing Carbon and Complexity
By expanding our integrated capabilities on a single site in Northern Ireland, we help reduce the need to move hardware between multiple laboratories, cutting logistics complexity, risk and associated emissions for our customers.
