Irish Space Association Conference 2023

September was a busy month for the Resonate team! We attended a number of trade events and conferences across the UK and Ireland, including the Irish Space Association Conference held at the Tyndall National Institute in Cork on the 7th September.
At the event we explored the innovative ways companies can work together to ensure the continued growth of Ireland’s space sector.
At Resonate Testing, we understand the important role that collaboration plays in propelling Ireland’s space industry to new heights of success, and by attending conferences like this, we can connect with leading companies and research hubs to tackle the challenges the sector faces, and drive breakthroughs in space technology, establishing Ireland as a key player in the global space industry.
Our team of focussed engineers is excited to further grow our space sector’s testing capabilities.
Charging Ahead With Battery Testing

With the new and ever-improving technology that is prevalent across many areas of our lives, chances are that a large proportion of the devices that we use are battery powered. Whether it is our mobile phones, watches, laptops, battery power tools and even our bikes and cars, people are opting for convenience through the likes of battery-powered portable chargers.
They are choosing more sustainable technologies and as a result, the batteries contained within these devices have undergone a rapid transformation as innovation in the sector has accelerated.
At Resonate Testing, our battery testing facilities boast industry-leading technologies and unmatched expertise, which allows us to meet the ever-changing demands of the market.
As requirements for better, stronger, and more efficient batteries skyrocket, cutting-edge testing capabilities have become essential to secure sustained growth and gain a competitive edge in the market.
From aerospace to automotive to healthcare, battery testing capabilities are revolutionising industries worldwide, empowering businesses to produce the highest quality products and stay ahead of the curve.

Defence and Security Equipment International Exhibition 2023

We exhibited at this year’s Defence and Security Equipment International Ltd (DSEI) exhibition in the Excel London, from 12th to 15th September. With over 1,500 defence suppliers exhibiting over the course of the four-day event, our team had the opportunity to exhibit in the DSEI dedicated space zone where we showcased our space and battery testing capabilities.
The Resonate team thoroughly enjoyed being part of this year’s exhibition and it was great to meet so many industry decision makers and see first-hand how the space industry is progressing in the UK and further afield. By attending such a prominent event we were able to increase awareness of the work that Resonate Testing does and network with our peers.

Working Better Together

On 21 September we attended the UK Space Agency / BAE Systems SME Event – Working Better Together, at BAE Systems in Dunfermline, Scotland.
Over the course of the day, we discovered more about the rapid growth of the UK’s space ecosystem and the importance of fostering strong relationships with UK Space’s SMEs, which will enable us to work together to address increasing market demands both domestically and internationally.

Safe Battery Disposal

At Resonate Testing, we spend a considerable amount of time testing batteries to ensure they meet all the required regulations. Once batteries reach the end of their life or are damaged, they must be disposed of correctly, otherwise they could overheat and catch fire without warning.
Additionally, if not disposed of correctly, it could take over 100 years for the batteries to perish and breakdown, whilst the chemicals contained in the batteries will never breakdown and are extremely toxic to the environment!
Have a read of our guidelines below on how to dispose of your used batteries correctly:
- If you need to dispose of a damaged or end of life battery, DO NOT dispose of it in your household waste or normal recycling.
- Lots of manufacturers offer a recycling service – simply contact them and let them know you wish to dispose of the battery and they will advise if they offer this service.
- Alternatively, a number of supermarkets also offer a recycling service so check on your next visit whether they will accept your used batteries.
- You can also contact your local authority to see if they offer battery recycling arrangements in your area.
If you need battery testing services, contact our team at Resonate Testing today, which has extensive experience in battery testing, qualification and validation!

Medical Technology Exhibition, Galway 2023

On the 21st and 22nd September, we exhibited at the Medical Technology Ireland Exhibition.
One of 300+ global suppliers exhibiting at the show, we were delighted to be showcasing our capabilities in shock and vibration testing, ingress protection testing and climatic testing. We also had the opportunity to speak with medical device manufacturers about the testing services we offer, to ensure that MedTech devices function properly in a broad range of climates and environments.
Be Battery Aware when it comes to eBikes and eScooters

eBikes and eScooters are fast becoming a regular sight when we’re out and about. Maybe you have recently purchased one of your own? As they grow in popularity it’s worth remembering that they do come with an increased risk due to the rechargeable batteries contained within.
If you’re considering purchasing an eBike or have recently purchased one, we have outlined some guidelines on how to minimise risk below:
- Buy e-bikes, e-scooters and chargers and batteries from reputable retailers.
- Many fires involve counterfeit electrical goods. Items which don’t meet British or European standards pose a huge fire risk and while genuine chargers (or battery packs) may cost more, it’s not worth putting your life at risk and potentially destroying your home by buying a fake charger to save money.
- If buying an e-bike conversion kit, purchase from a reputable seller and check that it complies with British or European standards. Take particular care if buying from online auction or fulfilment platforms. Also be aware that if buying separate components, you should check that they are compatible.
- Register your product with the manufacturer to validate any warranties – batteries are usually included in warranties. Registering makes it easier for manufacturers to contact you in the event of safety or recall information.
- Check any products you have bought are not subject to a product recall. You can do this by checking Electrical Safety First’s website or the government website.

And finally… A Date for Your Diary:

Not to be missed! The UK Space Conference is taking place from 21st to 23rd November 2023, right here in Northern Ireland and we are excited to be exhibiting at it!
Being held at theICC in Belfast, the three-day conference will provide our team with a platform to exchange ideas and develop partnerships in the emerging space sector – a sector in which Resonate is currently conducting hugely important and influential projects.
The UK Space Conference plays a pivotal role in uniting the UK and international space communities, opening the opportunity to discuss advancements and strategies in the space industry. We look forward to engaging and playing an important role in those conversations!
If you’re attending the show, make sure to pay a visit to our stand, B6, to find out more about how our testing capabilities have impacted the space sector and in the meantime, check out some of our recent work here.
We hope you’ve enjoyed our newsletter, feel free to share and, of course, contact us at any stage if you would like further information on any of the topics covered.
