TVAC Competition

TVAC Space Testing Competition

The TVAC Competition is Resonate’s space-industry engagement programme designed to support emerging space organisations, research teams and innovative technology developers by providing access to Thermal Vacuum (TVAC) testing expertise. The initiative was created to help accelerate product development, encourage collaboration across the space sector and provide practical access to environmental testing capabilities that simulate the conditions of space.

As part of the programme, selected participants have the opportunity to demonstrate their technology, gain exposure to industry specialists and explore how environmental qualification testing supports mission readiness, reliability and performance.

What is TVAC?

Thermal Vacuum (TVAC) testing recreates the extreme temperature and vacuum conditions experienced in space. By exposing hardware to controlled thermal cycles within a vacuum environment, engineers can evaluate how components, assemblies and spacecraft systems perform before deployment.

Testing Environment Purpose
Vacuum Conditions Replicates the low-pressure environment encountered in orbit.
Thermal Cycling Assesses performance through hot and cold operational extremes.
Qualification & Verification Provides confidence that hardware can withstand mission conditions.
Integrated Testing Can support broader environmental test programmes alongside vibration and shock testing.

The competition is built around the same principles of engineering excellence and mission assurance used throughout the space sector.

Competition Overview

The programme focuses on supporting innovative space-related projects that would benefit from environmental testing. Eligible entrants submit details of their technology, explain the value of testing to their development programme and outline how access to TVAC facilities would accelerate progress.

Based on competition information, the initiative was created to support UK, Irish and EU space organisations and provide selected winners with access to Resonate’s Thermal Vacuum testing capability during commissioning and development activities.

Entry Requirements

  • Organisation must operate within the space industry or related technology sector.

  • Projects should involve spacecraft, satellite, subsystem or associated space hardware development.

  • Entrants should demonstrate a clear requirement for environmental testing.

  • Applications should explain the technical challenge, project objectives and expected testing benefits.

  • One submission per organisation is recommended to ensure fair participation.

Winners & Participants

Successful entries are selected based on the relevance of the project, technical merit and the potential value that testing can provide to programme development. The competition is designed to showcase innovative space technologies while encouraging collaboration between industry, research organisations and emerging space companies.

Selected winners receive access to TVAC testing resources and engineering support, helping them progress towards qualification, verification and mission readiness activities.
