RTCA DO-160H Section 11 vs. MIL-STD-810H Method 504.3 (Contamination by Fluids)

RTCA DO-160H Section 11 and MIL-STD-810H Method 504.3 both evaluate the effects of fluid contamination on equipment, but they were developed for different operational environments and certification objectives.

RTCA DO-160H Section 11 testing

Is an aerospace environmental qualification standard used primarily for civil aviation equipment. The section assesses the ability of airborne equipment to withstand exposure to fluids that may be encountered during aircraft operation and maintenance, such as hydraulic fluids, lubricating oils, cleaning agents, de-icing fluids, fuel, and other aircraft-related contaminants. The objective is to demonstrate that equipment continues to meet its performance requirements after exposure to specified fluids representative of the intended aircraft environment.

MIL-STD-810H Method 504.3 testing

Is a military environmental test method intended to evaluate the resistance of materiel to contamination by fluids encountered during military operations. The method addresses a broader range of fluids and operational conditions, including fuels, hydraulic fluids, lubricants, decontaminants, cleaning compounds, and other substances that military equipment may encounter in field environments.
